Directions
Cook your rice according to the directions on the packaging.
Prepare your broccoli florets
Preheat broiler
Cut the crown from the stems and separate the crown into florets.
Slice each floret vertically through the stalk to create a flat surface
Use a peeler to shave the broccoli stems into thin pieces. You can also use a knife to thin slice the stems.
Combine ¼ cup sesame oil, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, mirin, and 1 tbsp minced garlic in a bowl and whisk until well combined.
Marinate broccoli florets in sauce mixture for up to 30 minutes. Make sure all pieces are well coated.
Evenly spread marinated broccoli florets on a foil wrapped baking sheet.
Broil broccoli florets for 4 minutes
Remove from broiler, flip florets to the other side, and continue to broil for 1-3 minutes. Watch your broccoli carefully so that it does not catch fire. You want the florets crispy and slightly charred.
Prepare your stems
Heat 2 tbsps sesame oil in a pan over medium high heat
Add onion to the pan and sauté until translucent and fragrant.
Add ginger and garlic and cook for 2 minutes, until fragrant
Add broccoli stems and mix well with onion, ginger, and garlic
Add a pinch of sea salt and allow to cook for 2 minutes
Add 1 tbsp of water to the pan, cover, and allow the stems to steam for about 5 minutes until tender.
Build your bowl
Combine cooked rice, broccoli florets, broccoli stems, and half an avocado in a bowl.
Top with a drizzle of the remaining sesame oil.
Enjoy!
