Fresh Produce At the Austin Town Hall Farmers Market

Nothing says summer like the weekly farmers market. This joyous joining of local growers, artisans, and residents makes a neighborhood vibrant. This week is National Farmers Market Week and the Austin Town Hall Farmers Market is bringing out all of the stops to celebrate.

This week's farmers market features:

  • A cooking demonstration from Beyond Hunger. Watch a live making and enjoy sampling veggie orzo pasta.

  • Groove to your favorite jams and a few deep cuts spun by DJ Jivefresh.

  • Interested in starting your own garden? Chicago Grows Food will be offering free grow kits so you can grow your own herbs and vegetables at home.

  • The Rogers Park Seed Library will be giving free fruit, vegetable, flower, and native plant seeds so you can get growing.

  • Sit for a 5 Minute Portrait by Jamie Davis and Comicboyfriend

Of course we'll be there bringing the best of the season to the Austin Town Hall Farmers Market. You all went one week without seeded watermelon and we thought we were going to have a riot on our hands! We learned our lesson and LOCAL seeded watermelon is back at the market this week! We'll also have locally grown peaches, blackberries, corn, collard greens, beets, carrots, tomatoes, and more. Come by the Austin Town Hall Farmers Market 5610 W. Lake Street, Thursday 1 PM - 6 PM

The Growing Is Good!

The Grown Good Box Is Looking Good!

We've been telling you about the Grown Good Box for over two months. This week we were thinking about new ways to talk about it. We wanted to add some of the old razzle dazzle, but we realized that's not needed. So we're going to give it to you straight.

The Grown Good Box is filled with the best that our local growing partners and family-owned distributors have to offer. The berries from Mick Klug Farm in southwestern Michigan are delivered to us 24-36 hours after being harvested. We pick up freshly harvested leafy greens on the south side of Chicago from Urban Growers Collective. Our wholesalers like Strube Celery & Vegetable Company have been selecting the best organic produce from around the country and the world for generations.

It's time to get the best of the season while the growing season's going strong. The Grown Good Box is only $35 and can be found in "Specialty Boxes" under the Fresh Produce Boxes section.

Everything Is Just Peachy!

You got some peaches in your last delivery and you let them sit just a bit too long. Now you've got some squishy fruit and you're thinking you're going to toss them in the compost. DON'T DO IT! We've got a delicious recipe for peach compote that helps bring new life to your overripe fruit!
